SAINT LAURENT CRAFTS CHARLOTTE PERRIAND DESIGNS

words by FLYNN LANZ

A must see occasion at Milan Design Week is the highly anticipated and exclusive collaboration of Saint Laurent with Charlotte Perriand, launching today. This showcase will present us with four exceptional furniture designs of Perriand and carefully curated by Anothony Vaccarello - taking the Perriand designs straight off the sketch page and into its extraordinary physical form.

These unique designs by Perriand date from 1943 to 1967 and have recently been reproduced and reimagined by Saint Laurent to be reissues in limited editions. Perriand originally crafted three of the pieces for her own homes all around the world and for a diplomatic residence in Paris. The pieces carefully selected by Vaccarello include: La Banqwuette de la Résidence de I’Ambassadeur du Japon à Paris, 1967 [Sofa for the Japanese Ambassador’s Residence in Paris], La Bibliothéque Rio de Janeiro, 1963 [Rio de Janeiro Bookcase], La Table Mille-Feuilles, 1963 [Mille-Feuilles Table], and Le Fauteuil Visiteur Indochrine, 1943 [Indochina Guest Armchair]. With being a clear figure of 20th-Century design, working as an architect, designer, urban planner, and photographer - Perriand truly is a materialised representation of the multifaceted connections we see between the various areas of design and how they interconnect to create such artful pieces.

This partnership between Saint Laurent and Charlotte Perriand is an ongoing representation of the House’s commitment to heritage, aiming to bring forward and preserve artifacts of design culture and bring it to the wider public audience. By revealing hidden designs in inaccessible collections, it honours both the brand ethos and personal admiration of Yves Saint Laurent’s for Perriand’s work - echoing her works of pure modernity within his own creations.

The “Saint laurent-Charlotte Perriand” collection is seen as revolutionary within the design world as it pushes the boundaries and is showcased with the broader public. This collaboration will be available to view from 8 April to 13 April at the Padiglione Visconti in Milan and bookings to visit this notable exhibition via online sign-ups. To bring further excitement to this exclusive showcase is the opportunity to have the limited-edition pieces available on a made-to-order basis.
