IN CONVERSATION WITH DANIELLE CAROLAN AND BROOKE MICCIO
interview by JANA LETONJA
Podcast hosts Danielle Carolan and Brooke Miccio just wrapped up their tour. Ranked the #1 podcast on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, ‘Gals on the Go’ is a lifestyle podcast that emphasizes authentic conversations, aiming to "pull back the curtain" on the seemingly perfect and glamorous lives portrayed on social media. Together, Danielle and Brooke bring their unique perspectives and experiences to ‘Gals on the Go’, fostering a community centered on genuine discussions and shared experiences.
You just wrapped your final ‘Gals on the Go’ tour show in LA. How are you both feeling as this chapter comes to a close?
We feel so proud, a little sentimental, and mostly incredibly grateful. The LA show felt like the perfect ending to the tour. Being in a city where so many people in the industry live, it felt full circle. This tour pushed us creatively and personally in all the best ways. It’s been a dream to connect with our listeners in real life and bring the energy of the podcast to a stage.
What’s your pre-show “get ready” routine like? Do you have any rituals or must-have items you can’t go on stage without?
We love turning our green room into a mini hype zone. There’s always a speaker blasting music, a full glam setup, Danielle sniffing her essential oils, and me testing out a few jokes. Right before we walk out, we always have a little moment to check in with each other, take a deep breath, and mouth “we got this” because our mics are on.
How has doing live shows changed the way you connect with your audience?
It completely shifted everything for us. Our listeners have always felt like friends, but seeing them in person? Unreal. Hearing them laugh at inside jokes took that connection to another level. It felt like the group chat came to life. It reminded us why we do what we do.
What was your favorite city to perform in, and why?
Atlanta was a standout for us. We both went to the University of Georgia, so it felt like a hometown show in a way. A ton of our college friends came out, and so many listeners who originally found us during our UGA days were in the crowd. The energy was insane, it felt like a full-circle moment, performing in front of people who’ve been with us since the beginning. It was just so special all around.
‘Gals on the Go’ has topped the charts on both Spotify and Apple. What do you think resonates most with your listeners?
Our audience has truly grown up with us, which is so special. It’s just real girl talk, the kind of conversations you’d have with your best friend after a long day. Whether we’re talking about relationships, life transitions, or random internet drama, we show up as ourselves, and our audience feels that.
The show is built around authenticity. How do you navigate sharing personal stories while still maintaining some boundaries for yourselves?
It’s definitely a balance we’ve learned to maintain over time. We’ve gotten comfortable sharing a lot, but we also know when to keep something to ourselves if it has to do with people in our lives who aren’t on social media, etc. We like to say we share from the scar, not the wound. There’s a mutual trust between us and our listeners, and between each other, which helps us open up while still protecting parts of our personal lives.
As co-hosts and friends, how do you support each other creatively and personally through the ups and downs?
We’ve built such a solid foundation of communication. We know when one of us needs a creative push or a pep talk. Or sometimes we just need to have a spiral session and rant to each other. We both bring different strengths to the table, and that’s part of what makes our dynamic work so well.
You each bring different energy to the podcast. How do your personalities complement each other?
Brooke is super logical and grounded, she brings humor, keeps us on track, and is often the voice of reason when we start to spiral. I am a big-picture thinker and total planner at heart. I love dreaming up creative episode concepts and visualizing the future of the brand. We balance each other out in a way that feels natural.
How do you both stay inspired and grounded in such a fast-paced, content-driven world?
Honestly? We don’t always. Some weeks we’re feeling a little more burnt out and just questioning everything. Other weeks, we’re overflowing with ideas. That’s just the reality of being online all the time. What keeps us grounded is knowing when to disconnect, when to vent to each other, and when to stop taking everything so seriously. Inspiration doesn’t always come from scrolling. It usually comes from actually living our lives, a random convo with a friend or something embarrassing that happened to us. We’ve learned that the best content usually comes from real life, not forcing it.
Now that the tour’s wrapping, what’s next for Gals on the Go? Any fun projects or collabs on the horizon?
We’re entering a new era for ‘Gals on the Go’, we’re rebranding the show to reflect where we’re at in life now. It’s still all about girl talk, internet chaos, and relatable stories, but with a more elevated tone. We’re leaning into our most loved segments from the live shows, refining the visuals, and continuing to build out the brand in new ways.
