We’re currently able to watch you in Prime Video’s series ‘Cruel Intentions’. What attracted you to this role and how does the series compare to the 1999 cult classic?
I don't think anything could compare to the 1999 cult classic. But what I think we achieved is that we were able to tell a compelling story within that incredible universe they established 25 years ago, with some updated humor and care. The tone. The fashion. The respect for the original, it's all there.
How did you approach the role of Blaise? Did you draw inspiration from the original film, or did you bring your own unique perspective to the character?
I think my greatest achievement is getting to share an iteration of a character with Joshua Jackson. I'm a huge fan. We've given Blaise/Blaine his own motivations this time out, but I approached everything that he originally did with reverence and respect. Hope he digs it.

‘Cruel Intentions’ is known for its bold themes. What were some of the challenges or highlights of working on a series with such an edgy reputation?
Personally, for me, I'm not that edgy. I'm not that cutting. So, the challenge was embodying a character, who had all of that to him, believably. I'm as hesitant as Blaise is impulsive. With the help of everyone on set, Sara Goodman and Phoebe Fisher, I think we pulled it off.

How did this role differ from some of your other work, and what did you learn from this experience?
The fashion. I've been lucky to work with some incredible costume designers, but Michael Ground really shot for the moon with Blaise's look, and I simply trusted him at every turn. I've never walked with that much confidence in my entire life.
You have a unique background as an Australian actor of Korean descent. How has this cultural diversity influenced your acting journey and the roles you pursue?
Australia has such a laidback, nothing's that serious, overtly friendly approach and I've maybe had to learn to curb that somewhat in such a tough industry. When it comes to my acting journey, it's served me well, just understanding that acting makes up just one, small part of me.
Being Korean gave me the perspective that I was assigned a value and was only permitted to read for certain types of roles in the first half of my career. It was valuable insight to see the extra work that you have to put in as a person of color, a woman, or if you're from any marginalized group really, to get anywhere you'd like to go. Blue-collar mentality. Or in my Mum's case, single-mother, immigrant mentality.

What initially drew you to acting, and was there a specific moment when you realized this was the path you wanted to pursue?
It honestly just seemed like the most fun you could have. I'm glad I gave it a proper go. Here til the wheels come off.
Out of all your roles, which story and character have been the most impactful to you so far, and why?
I couldn't choose just one. Maybe 'The Librarians', simply because it was my first US project and I was a 20-year-old amongst seasoned vets. I hope I've made those fans proud.
You’ve already worked on a range of television and film projects. What types of roles or genres are you most interested in exploring next?
Nothing specific. Just lucky to be working at all, honestly. If the ride continues, I'll be just as grateful as I was on day one.

The entertainment industry can be very demanding. How do you manage to stay grounded and motivated amid such a busy career?
I found value outside my career. Self-worth and identity are trendy words I used to throw around, and now, I actually get it. It’s easy to stay motivated when you have perspective and quality people around you. Being a good son, friend, uncle, co-worker and neighbour means so much more to me than being a good actor.
What can you share with us about your exciting upcoming projects?
I have an animated series that I can't talk about coming up. I truly think voice acting is my actual calling. I’m also about to begin production on “Voltron,” which is the live-action feature adaptation, based on the Japanese animated series, for Amazon MGM. Keep a lookout for the hair.
