IN CONVERSATION WITH JULIANA NALÚ
interview by MAREK BARTEK
Juliana Nalú has established a career as a top international model and social media sensation. Most recently, she starred in Emilio Pucci's campaign for the launch of their E.P. collection. Besides modelling, Juliana also dedicates much of her time to being the founder of The Favela Seeds Movement, a psycho-educational, cultural and talents incentive centre for aspiring young creatives.
You started modelling at just 14 and have since become an international sensation. What drove you to wanting to become a model and what was it like starting at such a young age?
From very early on, I knew I wanted a different path from my family, and that I needed success to change their reality. Modelling made my eyes shine—it gave me a way to express myself and the chance to transform my life.

Landing a campaign with L’Oréal at 18 was a pivotal moment. How did that experience shape your confidence and career trajectory?
By then, I had been hustling for four years, searching for an opportunity. And so, when it finally came, I gave it my all. Out of over 2,000 girls in the competition, I won and earned a scholarship, which allowed me to study acting for three years. Right after, I moved to LA, and my career took off. That whole experience taught me that no matter how many people want the same dream, those who work hard, will shine—you just need to stay focused on your own path.
From Rio de Janeiro to Milan Fashion Week, your journey has been extraordinary. How has your upbringing influenced your approach to modelling and your work ethic?
I believe you can only go far if you stay true to where you come from. That’s why I always move with gratitude and authenticity. Growing up, I knew I didn’t want to be a model just to look good in magazines—I wanted to make a difference in the industry.

You’ve walked for prestigious brands and appeared in high-profile campaigns like Emilio Pucci’s E.P. collection. Which project has been the most memorable for you so far, and why?
I’m truly grateful to all the brands that gave me opportunities, but I value most those that let me truly express myself. Lately, FAVELA SEEDS has been bringing me the most joy—through this non-profit, I’ve discovered the fulfilment of giving back.
Your content blends modelling, dancing, and fitness. What inspires the direction for your social media presence?
It’s just me—none of us are one thing. Over the years, I’ve grown and matured. I wouldn’t post dancing videos now, haha! My social media isn’t inspired by anything specific; it’s simply me evolving with life.
How do you use your platform to motivate young creatives, especially those from favelas like Complexo do Chapadão?
I believe success is the best motivation. Seeing how I changed my family’s story, gave my mom a new house, and built my life through hard work inspires them—because if I did it, they can, too.
The Favela Seeds Movement is a beautiful initiative. What inspired you to create this foundation, and what impact do you hope to achieve through it?
What inspired me to found FAVELA SEEDS was knowing I wasn’t the only talented girl in the favelas—I was just the one who got the opportunity. That planted a seed in my heart to help other kids fight for their dreams. With FAVELA SEEDS, I want to provide the tools they need because we all deserve a fair chance at a better future.
What role do you think art, culture, and psycho-education play in creating opportunities for kids in underprivileged communities?
Art, culture, and psycho-education open minds and expand horizons. They spark hope, nurture talent, and give kids the courage to dream big, showing them that their potential is limitless, no matter where they come from.

Do you have a story or moment from your work with Favela Seeds that particularly touched your heart?
A few months ago, we organised the first modelling casting in the favela where I grew up—a dream come true for me. I remember being a teenager, wishing for an opportunity like this in my community. Now, being the one to create these events fills me with so much joy.
You’ve achieved so much by 25. What are some personal or professional goals you’re still eager to accomplish?
My next goal is to give more visibility to FAVELA SEEDS and involve the talented kids we’ve discovered in exciting projects. Giving back every day is what truly makes me happy, and it’s what I want to be remembered for. I’m also working on my brand, Pitanga, which is deeply influenced by Brazil and a true reflection of who I am. I’m excited to share it with the world!
