You’ve been portraying Brooke Logan on ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ for over three decades. What do you think has kept both the character and the show so relevant and beloved worldwide?

The secret to enduring success is a melange of a lot of different elements. ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ head writer Brad Bell knows how to strike a balance between keeping the show new and exciting, and also giving the viewers the same great stories they’ve always known and loved. The show is about a glamorous, successful fashion family in Los Angeles. The characters are unforgettable, and the plot twists are jaw-dropping. The fashion featured on the show is gorgeous, and there are a lot of mysteries. You never know when one of the many delicious secrets will be compromised and then which lives will be shattered. Through it all, Brooke has a heart of gold, and no matter what, the Forrester Family always triumphs.

How has the soap opera industry evolved since you first started in 1987, and how have you adapted to those changes?

We keep shooting the scenes in less time. And the storyline reveals have sped up as well. But what stays the same is the broadcast schedule. Five days a week, Monday through Friday, with a cliffhanger on Fridays. Now, there are several cliffhangers throughout the week and maybe three on Fridays. Also, now people have the opportunity to record the episodes and watch them all at the same time on the weekend. Or they subscribe to a streaming service and binge-watch the episodes all at one time.

What has been the most rewarding part of playing Brooke for so many years?

I am so grateful for the loyal fans that have watched for so many years. Without them we wouldn’t be here. Coming to work almost every day and being able to do what I love and what I am passionate about is a great blessing. Not every actor in Hollywood, or anywhere else in the world for that matter, has that opportunity. Brooke is never boring. She may make some mistakes sometimes, but that’s what makes it exciting to watch. She’s not a bad person. Her intentions are always good.

Your luxury resortwear brand, Katherine Kelly Lang Kaftans, has gained a lot of attention. What inspired you to step into the fashion world, and how would you describe the essence of your brand, and what makes it unique?

My mom had a clothing store for 30 years and she taught me a lot about fashion. It’s about how the person feels when they are wearing the clothes. I wanted to create a style to make all women feel beautiful, flowing fabrics, beautiful colors and a carefree feeling.

Fashion is such a personal expression. How does your personal style influence your designs?

I’m a California girl and I grew up near the beach. I like to be comfortable and the ease of wearing my designs fits in with the carefree Southern California vibe.

As an entrepreneur, what has been the biggest challenge and the most rewarding part of running your own business?

All the day to day operations and getting everything right is the biggest challenge. The most rewarding part is getting to see people enjoying my designs. They post or send us photos.

You’ve been a strong advocate for various charities, from cancer research to children’s causes. What drives your passion for philanthropy?

I believe in giving back and helping others. My father died of cancer when I was a young girl, and that made me want to do what I can to help people who are given a cancer diagnosis. It can be unsettling, scary and chaotic.

Is there a particular charity or cause that’s especially close to your heart?

I’ve worked with Cancer Support Community for many years now. It’s a wonderful organization that helps people and families affected by cancer navigate their cancer journey.

You’re a dedicated athlete, having competed in Ironman triathlons and cycling events. What motivates you to push yourself in endurance sports?

I’ve always wanted to see how far I could push myself, in a good way, almost as a meditation to see what my body and mind is capable of. Endurance sports require not only physical conditioning but also mental discipline and strength. I like to set a goal for myself and accomplish it. I’m competitive with myself.

You’re also an avid equestrian. What do you love most about horseback riding, and how did that passion begin?

I’ve always ridden horses, ever since I was very young. I have a special sensitivity to horses and there is a kind of unspoken communication between riders and their horses that is almost mystical and spiritual. I think this connection can be therapeutic and healing for both. It’s one of my greatest passions.

You’ve had such a diverse and inspiring career. Is there anything new—whether in acting, business, or personal pursuits—that you’re excited to explore next?

There is so much new research into longevity breaking into our conciousness right now. I’m interested in living a long and happy life, so I am very curious about learning more and maybe trying some of the groundbreaking treatments I’ve heard about. We are blessed to live in a time when we have the possibility of living longer, more productive and zestful lives and I’m here for it.
