Actress and singer Maia Reficco is known as one of the main stars in HBO Max ‘Pretty Little Liars’ spin off series, which just recently concluded its second season, titled ‘Summer School’. This Summer, she will also star in the action film ‘One Fast Move’, which is premiering on 8th August. Besides acting projects, Maia is also working on new music.

Maia, you are one of the ‘new’ Liars in the ‘Pretty Little Liars’, which just concluded its second season ‘Summer School’. How excited were you when you got cast on this series, following in the footsteps of the highly popular original?
I was so incredibly happy, and still am. It’s surreal to get to be a part of something I grew up obsessing over. Following the footsteps of such an iconic group of women, I feel honored to share this with our set of new little liars.
What challenges and excites you the most about your character Noa, and how has she developed through both seasons?
Noa has been so wonderful to play and grow alongside of. Getting to understand her and her journey throughout these two seasons, I empathized and connected with so many different parts of her. I think my favorite thing of all was getting to find her voice through how she established her relationships with all the different liars. Finding who she was within this dynamic while not losing her voice was a very special challenge as an actor. And, of course, I loved to get to run away from a killer with her track star spirit.
This Summer, you’ll be starring in the action film ‘One Fast Move’, alongside KJ Apa and Eric Dane. Tell us more about the story of this film and your role in it.
‘One Fast Move’ is an action-packed drama that, aside from it being heavily centered around motorcycles, emphasizes the importance of self-discovery and how the relationships we establish play such a crucial part in growing and evolving. Personally, it was my first time playing a mother, and I really focused on being as respectful and sincere as I possibly could when telling this story. It most definitely was a challenge, but a beautiful one. Getting to pull from all of the wonderful mothers in my life was something I’ll cherish forever.

What was your favorite part of filming this action film?
Getting to work with such a lovely, talented and generous team. Kelly, our director, made so much room for us to play and explore, which therefore allowed us to connect with this story in the most honest way we could.
Earlier this year, you also made your Broadway debut in ‘Hadestown’. How proud are you of this moment in your career?
I’m elated. Couldn’t be happier and still cannot wrap my head around it. It’s been such a surreal experience. Getting to tell a story I’m so passionate about, every single night, feels like the biggest gift life has given me. Our entire team is wonderful and continue to fill my heart with joy on the daily baiss. I consciously try to keep reminding myself of how lucky I am. Little 10-year-old Maia would never believe we’re here.
In what ways does performing on stage excite you more than starring in TV or film projects?
I am very passionate about both mediums and although, as much as I love TV and film, there’s something so magical about live theatre that cannot be replicated anywhere else. Feeling the emotion in the house every night, getting to tell the story from beginning to end, and finding new pockets of life within this story we continue to experience is exceptionally fulfilling. It’s a constant reminder of why I chose to do what I do.

Which project so far has had the biggest impact on your career, and why?
I’ll start from the beginning and say the project that completely changed my life was ‘Kally’s Mashup’. My career started off in Argentina, my home, doing a musical TV show that I’m still, to this day, very proud of. I got to live out my dream at just 16 years old, and I would be nowhere near where I am today without it.
You are also a singer. What do you the most about music and what does music mean to you?
Music is the most important thing in my life, beside my family, of course. It is who I am, how I experience life and emotion, how I connect with myself and others. I cannot imagine a world in which I do anything else.

We are a magazine highly focused on fashion. What role does fashion play in your life and what do you like the most about exploring it?
Fashion, to me, is self-expression. It is finding ways of expressing who I am, what I like, how I like to feel, ways of exuding confidence and helps me discover every version of myself. As artists, fashion plays a huge part in how our identities come to life, and it’s most definitely been one of my favorite things about my journey of both self-discovery and discovering different characters I’ve played. It informs so many aspects of who we are, without necessarily defining or limiting who we could be.
What can you share with us about your other upcoming projects, both in acting and music?
As for right now, my focus and energy are set on ‘Hadestown’ and my music. I’m trying really hard to balance it all, but hopefully I’ll get to share this piece of me soon.
