IN CONVERSATION WITH SAMUEL ARNOLD

interview by JANA LETONJA

Actor Samuel Arnold is best know for his role as Julien in Netflix’s hit series ‘Emily in Paris’, which will be premiering the first part of its fourth season on 15th August. The second part will be then dropping on 12th September.

Samuel, we’re currently able to watch you back on our screens in the fourth season of ‘Emily in Paris’. What can we expect in the upcoming second part of the season?

Emily is once again at a crossroads, torn between two men she loves, and this decision won't come easily. Fans can look forward to more iconic Parisian locations and a deeper exploration of the other characters, including a lot more from Julien.

What is in store for Julien in the upcoming season?

The first three seasons have been building up to this moment for Julien. In Season 4, he truly shines, standing up for himself while remaining the most fashionable marketing executive at the firm we’ve all grown to love. Julien is determined not to let Emily dim his light.

Julien is Emily’s chich and judgmental fashion-forward co-worker. What do you enjoy the most about portraying him, and how has he evolved over the years?

Julien is brave, extroverted, bold, fashionable, and incredibly funny. He’s the kind of coworker everyone wishes they had. It’s a joy to bring him to life and watch him evolve from the fun-loving guy at work to a serious and respected marketing executive.

You’ve been part of ‘Emily in Paris’ since the very beginning. What do you love the most about the series in general?

Playing Julien is an absolute pleasure, but what I cherish most is the bond I've formed with my castmates. We’re literally like family now, and that connection is the most beautiful gift this project has given me.

How has this role changed your career and life?

This role has been life changing. It made me an international actor and allowed me to work at the level I’ve always dreamed of. It even paved the way for big moves, like relocating to LA two months ago. I’m forever grateful for the opportunities it’s brought.

Before acting, you’ve been a professional dancer. Tell us more about this part of your career, and what role does dance play in your life today.

I’ve always been passionate about art and storytelling. Dance was my first language of expression, but acting felt like the most complete art form. Dance and movement are integral to how I connect with my characters, so yes, dance plays a major role in my acting today.

What inspired your transition from dance to acting, and what does fulfill you about acting the most?

Since I was 12, I’ve been passionate about storytelling, exploring it through dance and other art forms. When it came time to choose a career, acting stood out as the best way to tell stories. Understanding a character’s psyche not only helps me portray them better, but also gives me deeper insights into myself. That self-discovery is incredibly fulfilling.

In ‘Emily in Paris’, fashion plays a huge part. How important is fashion to you personally, and how would you describe your style?

My style is pretty eclectic. Whether it’s suits, streetwear or high fashion, I dress to feel comfortable and express how I’m feeling that day. I draw inspiration from music, heroes, pop culture, hip-hop, books, anime, you name it. Since playing Julien, I’ve had even more fun with my fashion choices.

Besides acting and dance, what are some of your other passions in life?

I’m really into pop culture, hip-hop culture, video games and of course, films. I recently tried my hand at producing and it went really well. My short film ‘Nolan’s Treasure’, directed by Shihan Fey Blanca, was well received at its Paris screening. I’m excited about the possibility of making a feature film in the future.
