IN CONVERSATION WITH THE PITMAN SISTERS

interview by JANA LETONJA

Professional athletes turned social media superstars, The Pitman sisters are known for their unprecedented dance coordination, magnetic personalities, and aspirational fashion sense and style. Hot off the heels of winning the Social Star Award at the Industry Dance Awards in 2024, they have amassed a dedicated following of over 3 million followers across social platforms, all thanks to their captivating choreography content and Sabrina Carpenter herself reposting their videos.

You three have a powerful presence in the world of social media with over 3 million followers. Can you take us back to how it all began? What inspired you to start sharing your dance videos online?

We have always enjoyed dancing and performing together, even if it was just in our living room for our parents. COVID-19 caused us all to be in the same place again without much to do, so we just started making videos for fun. It became a way for us to spend time together and express ourselves creatively, while also sharing positivity online.

How has your background influenced the way you approach dance and choreography?

We all danced in some capacity growing up and were super active. Hasley and Hope played sports and I (Halle) danced competitively. We are able to leverage all of our different skill sets and experience to create choreography that is both cool to watch, but also easy to pick up for our followers to do, as well.

You recently won the Social Star Award at the 2024 Industry Dance Awards. What does that recognition mean to you, and how has it shaped your journey moving forward?

It was so amazing to be recognized by such a prestigious dance organization, and one we resonate with so much. It inspired us to keep going and reminded us how far we have come as a group.

Your choreography is often described as unprecedented. How do you come up with fresh, innovative dance routines that stand out in a crowded social media space?

I think combining Halle’s versatile skill set in dancing and choreography with Hope’s and mine creative and innovative ideas, we are able to bounce off of one another and come up with choreography that we enjoy doing and sharing with others.

Social media can be both rewarding and challenging. How do you navigate the pressure to constantly produce content while staying true to yourselves?

It is easy to just go online and create videos to all of the newest trends, but we have worked hard to only produce content that fully aligns with ourselves, rather than to just post. We want to make sure everything that we post is true to all three of us.

What is the process like when you come together to create a new dance? How do you combine your individual styles and strengths into a seamless, coordinated routine?

There’s a lot of workshopping and playing around. It is so fun to be working with your sisters, and moments where we are creating dances tends to be more playful than serious, but that is usually when we create the best videos. All of us are able to pitch in and use our own creativity, and that is what makes it so personal to all three of us.

Working with your siblings must create a unique dynamic. How would you describe the experience of collaborating as sisters in such a high-profile space?

Although it brings its own set of challenges, it is also our greatest strength. We have something that is really unique, and not a lot of people can understand what we have gone through and experienced in these spaces, so knowing your sisters do is such an amazing feeling.

Your aspirational fashion sense has gained a lot of attention. How do you define your personal style, and how does it reflect your personalities?

We each have grown into such unique people. Hasley loves a western or sporty flare with classic pieces. I tend to try and have a bit of a funky twist on timeless fashion. Halle lands perfectly in between, blending her own sporty edge with a bit of feminine quality.

Do you have any favorite brands or designers that you love wearing, or are you more about creating unique looks from your own wardrobe?

We have loved our opportunities to work with Dior and so many other brands that feel authentic to us. But honestly, everything depends on the day.

You’ve built a strong, relatable brand. How do you ensure that you stay grounded and true to yourselves, despite the rapid growth and visibility?

Luckily we always have each other. We try to make sure and prioritize time where we can just be sisters and hang out, without having to worry about being camera ready. We also try to visit home a lot. We use it as a reset to check-in with ourselves and the people that matter the most.

Having gained a massive following with your dance content, what’s next for you three? Are there any upcoming projects or goals you’re working toward as a collective?

Diving deeper into fashion space, diving deeper into personal growth and content, and continue to show our dynamic as sisters growing up into women, which a lot of our audience enjoys getting to experience with us.
