IN CONVERSATION WITH DANIELLE VASINOVA

interview by JANA LETONJA

Actress and model Danielle Vasinova most recently starred in the action thriller film ‘Darkness of Man’ alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme. This year, she has also been nominated for an Emmy Award as a producer on the series ‘The Bay’, in which she will be having a recurring role in the upcoming season.

Danielle, how exciting was starring in the action thriller film ‘Darkness of Man’, and alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme?

When I was growing up, Jean-Claude was one of my favorite action actors. I was blown away when I first met him and he did a roundhouse kick over my head. I loved working with him, as well as one of my favorite directors, James Cullen Bressack.

For your role as a producer in the series ‘The Bay’, you’ve been nominated for an Emmy. How proud and accomplished did this recognition make you feel?

I was humbled and honored to receive this recognition. It’s very satisfying to have your hard work acknowledged and to be part of an amazing team.

In the upcoming season, we’ll be seeing you in a recurring role. What can you tease about the new season?

All I can share is there will be even more sex, lies and never ending scandals. This coming season will deliver more of what’s made ‘The Bay’ a must watch program.

What excites you the most about this series?

Working with the remarkable ensemble cast under the direction of the talented Gregori J. Martin has been an incredible experience. It’s a joy to be on set and be a part of this compelling production.

How did your career in acting begin? What made you passionate about the craft?

I was inspired by my grandmother who was an actor and singer in Prague. My passion arose out of that family heritage coupled with my own attraction to the cinema and great storytelling.

Before acting, you’ve also been modeling. What did you love the most about modeling and the world of fashion, and what were the things that you found the most challenging about it?

I love the collaborative and creative elements of the fashion world. Working with passionate designers, photographers and other artists is similar to the film world in delivering visual storytelling. The pressure to maintain a certain body image can be very challenging, as well as developing a thick skin with the amount of rejection one can receive.

What does your relationship with fashion look like today? How important is fashion to you?

Fashion is a form of self expression. I’m always evolving and so is fashion. It’s inspiring and fulfilling to be working with different designers to help express their creativity as well as my symbiotic evolution.

When you’re not on set, you’re an avid equestrian. Tell us more about this passion of yours.

I’ve been riding since the age of 3 when my dad bought me my first pony. I enjoy all forms of riding, including English, Western, Hunter/Jumper and Dressage. I look forward to showcasing these skills on film in the near future.

You also study martial arts, specifically Wushu, and are a fan of motorcycle riding. What drew you to these action and adventurous sports?

I grew up on a farm and have always had a love of adventure, beginning when my dad took me on the back of his motorcycle. I’ve always been drawn to activities that make me feel alive and fully in the moment.

Tell us more about your upcoming projects, besides the new season of ‘The Bay’, that we’ll be able to see you in soon.

I’m excited to be working on two upcoming films in the thriller/horror genre that have yet to be announced. Stay tuned for more details soon.
