RECAP OF THE WEEK BY NUMÉRO NETHERLANDS

words ELIANA CASA
editor MARIE-PAULINE CESARI

January is that month of the year as hectic as the queue to get into a fashion show or a party right after. While for others it might be the time to reconnect with one’s inner self - for us - it’s that time where sleeping is not really a priority.

This week marked the start of a new month - and for some designers, the end of their journey at the helm of brands. New exciting campaigns made us feel quite nostalgic, and obviously thrilling announcements couldn’t miss. Did you really think we would forget to update you with the hottest highlights of the moment? Sit back, relax, and dive into your favorite fashion weekly recap.

SABATO DE SARNO STEPS DOWN FROM GUCCI

Sabato De Sarno’s news of stepping down from Gucci hit us like a shot of double espresso in the middle of the day. The designer, who made his debut with Gucci Ancora, and the iconic Rosso Ancora’s palette, is exiting the brand after only two years (time really goes fast). Sabato stated on his Instagram account: “Any important project relies on the passion, the intelligence and heart of extraordinary people. (...) It is the true measure of whether you are true to yourself, whatever the opportunity, whatever the challenge. A thank you would not be enough maybe. But today my joy is for you.” And, we like to think he was listening to ‘Ancora Ancora Ancora’ by Mina remixed by Mark Ronson in the background. In the meantime, rumours on who’s gonna fill in the role, are already out there, and some suggested that it might be the time for Hedi Slimane and Kering to finally make peace.

KATE MOSS IS THE FACE OF ISABEL MARANT FOR SS25 CAMPAIGN

Some returns feel more nostalgic than ever. After almost 15 years, the legendary Kate Moss is back as the face of Isabel Marant, alongside K-pop sensation Seonghwa from Ateez. While wearing the statement Marant’s leather jacket, styled with a new entry, the Altay bag, Kate is quintessentially herself. While Kate made a comeback, the brand tapped for the first time a global K-pop star, Seonghwa of Ateez. Shot by Robin Galiegue, the 1990s meet the 2020s, modern youth cross paths timeless elegance cross in a campaign where Isabel Marant Femme and Homme walk side by side.

MARC JACOBS TRANSPORTS US TO DREAMLAND WITH HIS SS25 COLLECTION

One of the most awaited highlights from New York Fashion Week is definitely the Marc Jacobs show, and this season was no exception. The press release said “With precious freedom we dream and imagine without limitation, not to escape from reality but to help navigate(...)”. That’s exactly what we did while the dolls-like-models strut down the runway, with the New York Public Library serving as backdrop. The collection was magnificently and distinctively Jacobs: distorted proportions, exaggerated pads, surrealistic shoes… we could keep going forever, but luckily for you, we rounded up the main details in our review.

BOTTEGA VENETA UNVEILS SS25 CAMPAIGN, MATTHIEU BLAZY'S FINAL COLLECTION

In this whirlwind of emotions, and last minute changes, Matthieu Blazy reminded us all that the “joie de vivre” should be the ultimate trend in the fashion industry. Before saying his last goodbyes, the designer unveiled his last BOTTEGA VENETA SS25 campaign under his creative direction. The Ark, a limited-edition series of animal-shaped bean bag seats, inspired by the classic Sacco chair made an appearance yet again. The campaign is playful not only in clothing, but also meaning: dressing is not a serious act after all, but also a way of experimenting like when we were kids in our parents' wardrobes.

AREA APPOINTS NICHOLAS ABURN AS CREATIVE DIRECTOR

In a world where it’s hard to keep up, fashion brands are only making it even harder. Two days after the departure of Area’s co-founder Piotrek Panszczyk, the brand didn't waste any time and appointed Nicholas Aburn as his successor. And if you are wondering who is the new creative director, we got you covered. Originally from Maryland, he studied at Central Saint Martins in London. After a 12 years of experience at leading Fashion Houses, like Balenciaga, Alexander Wang, and Tom Ford, the designer is returning to New York, a city that - in his own words:  “always inspires me with its unique blend of raw energy and glamour. Area embodies that spirit, and I'm eager to bring the brand back to its origins.” Auburn is officially starting in March, and will present his first show during the Spring 2026 season.

IS CASEY CADWALLADER BIDDING ADIEU TO MUGLER?

2025 is really the year of designers playing, what we like to call, the fashion chair game. Is Casey Cadwallader going to be the next one in line? While rumors are swirling, sources suggest it might be true—though nothing has been officially confirmed yet. While everyone (including us) is left there wondering - we can’t stop but make scenarios on the possible reasons behind such a move. Some say this could explain why the brand isn’t included in the official Paris Fashion Week lineup this March. Could the departure be timed with the upcoming Spring 2025 collection? Only time will tell.
