CIRQUE DU SOLEIL IS SET TO DEBUT IN ROTTERDAM AHOY WITH ‘CORTEO’
Cirque du Soleil is circling back to Europe with Corteo, one of its most beloved indoor productions, and is set to make its Rotterdam debut in November — hitting the Ahoy arena. Directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, Corteo premiered all the way back in 2005 in Montreal. Since then, the spectacle has won the hearts of over 10 million people across four continents. Due to high demand for tickets, an extra show has been added to the run in the Netherlands. Corteo will now be playing from the 14th of November to the 17th in the Ahoy arena.
In Italian, Corteo means ‘procession’ and here, the performance is a joyful parade imagined by a clown. The show combines theatrics with elegance and acrobatics, humour and spontaneity, and is set in a limbo between heaven and earth. Entrenched in a carnivalesque air, the clown envisions his own funeral and in a display of grand charm and subtle vulnerability, the show highlights all aspects that make us human.
Additionally, a Cirique du Soleil first, the stage will be positioned at the centre of the auditorium, creating a unique audience perspective as the venue will be split into two sections. This setup forms a never before seen atmosphere and allows visitors to dwell into each other while the artists perform on stage.
Tickets for the show are available through Ticketmaster and the Cirque du Soleil website.
