DISCOVER ‘PLASTIC’, NATASHA ZINKO’ SS25 FASHION SHOW
Natasha Zinko presented her SS25 runway show at this season’s London Fashion Week. After tackling theme such as our common past (MONSTER FW23), the planet’ state (THE CAMP SS24), and our possible future (SPACE RACE FW24), she is orienting her scrutinizing lens towards our own insecurities. Entitled PLASTIC, this collection is drawing inspiration from plastic surgery and its ability to mould us, to give novel shape and structure to the body. Plastic is everywhere, we cannot escape its presence in our daily lives, but the conscious choice of modifying your appearance by implementing this material in your healthy body is what motivated Natasha Zinko’s thought process for this collection.
47 looks strutted down the runway in an almost macabre fashion, where models seemed under the influence of powerful anesthetics. Natasha Zinc’s transgressive style is more cynical, edging her playful brand of optimism into newfound satirical territory. Plastic sleeves complete t-shirt and hoodies, while plastic tits ‘implants’ are 3D-printed and inserted visibly into tiny bra tops, protruding from each cup. Variations of the all-white medical attire are contrasted with form-fitting streamlined patients’s gown, giving representation to the whole hospital.
Layering plays a big role in giving that deconstructed, groggy look to the presentation, with hoodies serving as skirts, inverted tank tops and mules lacking in symmetry. Elastic medical headbands are used as accessories, while shrunken denim jackets worn alongside warped jeans with undulating seams references the horrors of botched surgeries-gone-wrong. Innovative and profound, this collection takes an interest in one of the most popular phenomenon of our time, and twists it by rendering visible what should stay hidden.
