HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KATE MOSS!

editor MAREK BARTEK

From countless campaigns and runways to some of the most iconic editorials and covers of magazines, Kate Moss has done it all. The queen of ‘pretty girl next door’ and ‘girl who can’t stop vaping’ made her not only one of the most celebrated models ever but also an incredibly relatable and likeable personality.

Kate first rose to fame in the early 90s as a part of the heroin chic trend. She was discovered at the age of 14 at JFK Airport by Sarah Doukas, and went on to be featured in The Face magazine, followed by Levi’s campaign. In 1992 she appeared in her first of many Calvin Klein campaigns, which ultimately brought her the status of “iconic”.

She has become a muse for designers and artists, and worked with some of the most renowned photographers, among them: Mario Sorrenti, Bruce Weber, Annie Leibovitz, Juergen Teller, David Sims, Inez Van Lamsweerde + Vinoodh Matadin and Mert & Marcus.

Contrary to popular opinion, Moss was never considered a supermodel. While the OG supermodels were tall, curvaceous and graceful, Kate was shorter, skinny and unapologetically herself. With her pictures often being described as grunge or dirty realism, Kate became an “anti-supermodel” – a symbol of rebellion to beauty standards, despite being absolutely beautiful.

The timelessness of being true to oneself and trusting the process pays off, and Kate Moss is a perfect example. At the age of 51 she is still a sought-after model for both runway and campaign, walking for brands like Louis Vuitton, Bottega Veneta and most recently appearing in a YSL campaign.

She remains a constant reminder we should keep looking for beauty in all its forms. And so, on this very special day, we present to you some of Kate Moss’ most iconic looks both on and off the runway, and hope to spark a little bit of inspiration from our favourite anti-supermodel.
