JAN SHOW 12: A LOVE LETTER TO CZECH CULTURE
words by MARIE-PAULINE CESARI
Jan Černý’s JAN SHOW 12 was a love letter to Czech culture, blending fashion and nostalgia in a way that felt both timeless and fresh. Inspired by the 25th anniversary of Pelíšky—a Czech film set in the late 1960s that captures the humor and heartache of family life under political tension— Černý used the film’s emotional depth and visual style as a springboard for his latest collection.
Held in Prague’s Křižík Pavilion, the show’s setting transported the audience into the world of Pelíšky. Vintage armchairs and sofas surrounded the runway, evoking a sense of warmth and familiarity. We were lucky enough to be seated in these sofas and experience the show at its very heart. As artificial snow fell from the ceiling, the space transformed into a wintery dreamscape, enhanced by cinematic lighting and a soundtrack by DJ and producer Nobodylisten. It felt less like a fashion show and more like stepping into a living memory.
The collection itself was a masterclass in merging tradition with modernity. Černý reinterpreted classic menswear staples: suits sparkled with Preciosa crystals, knit polo shirts featured intricate beadwork, and bomber jackets in paper-like nylon introduced a futuristic edge. Accessories made a statement—oversized bags, multi-belt styling, and leather pieces adorned with ribbon details.
Notable debuts included the Prestige x Jan 2.0 sneakers, a sleek design two years in the making, and gravity-defying jewelry in collaboration with Apart, adding an extra layer of craftsmanship and innovation.
JAN SHOW 12 was an immersive celebration of Czech heritage, creativity, and storytelling. With this collection, Jan Černý reminded us that fashion is more than just fabric; it’s a powerful medium for honoring the past while embracing the future. Beyond being a visionary and talented designer, Jan is also a genuinely kind individual, a quality that shines through in the warm, collaborative atmosphere he fosters in every project.
