LVMH CELEBRATES PRÉLUDE: AN UPCYCLED FASHION COLLECTION
Launched by LVMH under Kevin Germanier’s creative direction, Prélude is an innovative, upcycled fashion collection born from in-ward reflection on the possible reuse of unsold products from fashion’s biggest houses. Besides, the collection also uses fabric scraps from Nona Source, a platform created by the LVMH intrapreneurship programme, and weturn, a start-up awarded with the LVMH Innovation Award in 2022. The initiative marks LVMH’s great commitment to sustainability and circularity.
Led by Germanier, who is known for his pioneering upcycling designs, Prélude highlights the development of new skills enabled by an elevated level of creativity. It includes strip-cutting to weave new textiles, unravelling to re-knit, and the art of crochet. The collection offers back-to-basics aesthetics, using just one thread or strip of fabric to weave them.
The collection marks two major ambitions of the LVMH group. It imagines both a desirable and commercial collection, while maintaining the group’s aspirations for excellence and refinement. Additionally, in the production process, the original upcycled garments are complete lost and turned anonymous. The result is a collection full of unique and innovative pieces.
Using the art of creating, deconstructing, and recreating, the approach fully embodies the group’s commitment to responsible and desirable fashion. Prélude, the name, symbolising the prologue to future creations; creations that are more sustainable, more upcycled, and more ambitious.
