MEWE: ENTREPRENEURS BRING A NEW DIMENSION TO AMSTERDAM NIGHTLIFE
Amsterdam will soon gain a new and unique destination with the launch of MEWE, a boutique club where fine dining and nightlife come together. Located at Korte Leidsedwarsstraat 14, MEWE promises a unique experience for the 25+ generation. It's all about creativity, hospitality and top service in a relaxed yet stylish setting. Behind this concept are experienced hospitality entrepreneurs Jeffrey van Alphen, Vladimir Orelio and Saïd Bardan.
Jeffrey started entrepreneurship at a young age and now has more than twenty-five years of experience in various sectors within the hospitality industry. ‘My father had a snooker-billiard café in The Hague, so I literally grew up in the hospitality industry,’ he says. ‘When I was 16, I had my own cleaning company and at 18 I worked for other hospitality businesses. Catering is in my blood, and I knew I wanted to start my own place one day.’
After years of working in the industry, including as general manager of a nightclub at the W Hotel in Amsterdam, Jeffrey felt it was time for his own project: MEWE. ‘I saw a gap in the market for a boutique club where you can start the evening with good bites and continue in a club setting, without changing locations. Everything in one place, with the same quality of service and atmosphere.’
‘MEWE is not just another boutique club,’ Jeffrey explains. ‘The idea is to offer a seamless experience that combines the best of both worlds. You can enjoy the bar bites of a Michelin-starred chef while being in a stylish club environment. The kitchen stays open until midnight, so you don't have to rush and can spend the evening at your own pace.’
The choice of location at Korte Leidsedwarsstraat 14, near Leidseplein, also plays an important role in the concept. ‘We looked for a place that is perfect for what we want to put up. This location offers the right look and feel and is easily accessible. The boutique club setting will appeal to both local and international guests.’
The name MEWE not only stands for a unique experience, but also embodies a deeper message of togetherness and connection. ‘MEWE’ symbolises the meeting of individuals - the ‘me’ and ‘us’ - and emphasises the importance of collaboration and inclusiveness. In an era of increasing polarisation, MEWE provides a space where differences are embraced and people come together to have a great evening. The concept reflects the vision of creating a boutique club that not only sets a new standard around sophisticated bites and nightlife, but also bridges people from different backgrounds and perspectives.
MEWE targets a specific audience: the 25+ generation who are creative and open-minded. ‘We want to create a community where people with the same mindset can meet in a safe and energetic environment,’ says Jeffrey. ‘Besides regular nights, there will also be special events and collaborations with partners. The idea is to provide a place where people can enjoy themselves but also connect with like-minded people.’
Jeffrey has big plans for the future of MEWE, which also includes Vladimir's son Tiësto. ‘Our goal is to make a lasting impression and set a new standard in Amsterdam. We want to keep innovating and use our platform to present the latest trends and developments in fine dining and nightlife. Through collaborations with renowned partners such as Louis Vuitton Moët-Hennessy who are hosting their first Dutch flagship store in MEWE, Daalder Restaurants and D-Vine with Clase Azul, we hope to continue offering a unique and high-quality experience.’
MEWE will open its doors in mid-November and will be open every Thursday to Saturday. Opening hours are from 21:00 to 03:00 on Thursdays, and from 21:00 to 04:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.
