MIGUEL CASTRO FREITAS APPOINTED CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF MUGLER
words by MAREK BARTEK
“It is an honour to join the spectacular house of Mugler. As one of the 20th century’s great couturiers, Mr. Mugler reimagined the power and limits of fashion. Alongside the teams, I am thrilled to bring my own vision, story and emotion to this monumental heritage.”
It’s official! Miguel Castro Freitas has been named the new Creative Director of Mugler. A graduate of Central Saint Martins in womenswear design, he has worked under the icons like John Galliano at Dior, Stefano Pilati at Yves Saint Laurent, and Alber Elbaz at Lanvin. But it is his expertise in tailoring—as the Head of Tailoring at Christian Dior under Raf Simons and later leading womenswear at Dries Van Noten—that might have tipped the scales in his favour. Miguel officially joins Mugler on April 1, 2025, with his debut collection for Spring-Summer 2026 set to be revealed at Paris Fashion Week this fall. No matter what the expectations are, one thing is certain—a new era for Mugler begins.
“Miguel lives and breathes the Mugler spirit. His deep understanding of Mugler’s DNA and his vast creativity and talent made him a natural choice. On behalf of the team, we are thrilled to unveil this new chapter with Miguel.”
“Working under some of the industry’s most prolific designers, Miguel boasts an incredible talent in tailoring and “flou”, combined with a vision that is all his own. His love and knowledge of Mugler’s couture codes and heritage will be a limitless source of storytelling to propel the house into the future.”
