“THE UNSEEN FORM” EDITORIAL BY ALEXANDRE DORNELLAS

Numéro Netherlands presents an exclusive editorial exploring surrealism through a contemporary lens, drawing from the dreamlike worlds of David Lynch, the esoteric visions of Alejandro Jodorowsky, and the haunting beauty of Dorothea Tanning. Inspired by Lynch’s fragmented identities and unsettling atmospheres, the images distort the human form, obscuring faces and erasing features, evoking the eerie aesthetic of Twin Peaks and Lost Highway.

Dorothea Tanning, a master of surrealism, influences this narrative with her ethereal, uncanny dreamscapes—where figures dissolve into fabric and reality bends into illusion. Her ability to merge the sensual with the eerie mirrors the editorial’s exploration of the unknown, where fashion becomes a medium for psychological storytelling.

A key moment in the series pays homage to The Holy Mountain, referencing the iconic film poster by Enrico De Seta. Jodorowsky’s influence is deeply embedded in this work, not just visually but philosophically—his exploration of mysticism, transformation, and the surreal as a gateway to the unknown.

In this tribute to David Lynch, we've taken a look back.. the images have taken on even more meaning, emphasising the profound impact of Lynch's work. In addition to Twin Peaks and Lost Highway, films such as Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive also shape this editorial, reinforcing its themes of mystery and distortion.

By blending fashion with the language of cinema and art, this editorial becomes more than a series of images; it’s an invitation into a world where beauty is enigmatic, reality is fluid, and the unseen is just as powerful as what is revealed.
