THIS NATIONAL FRAGRANCE DAY OUR EDITORS SHARE THEIR FAVOURITE SCENTS
Yesterday marked the official beginning of spring, and with the world coming back to life, it’s only fitting that the second day of the season is dedicated to scent. Though often underestimated, olfaction (the sense of smell) has the strongest connection to memory and emotion. Even without sight or sound, a simple scent can bring back memories, shift moods, and evoke deep feelings. For those still wondering what their go-to fragrance for the season might be, our editors share their top picks.

Le Labo’s Poivre 23
via nichefragrancelovers.com.au
My favourite perfume is Poivre 23 by Le Labo. It has a very spicy and strong scent that makes me feel more confident whenever I wear it. In fact, I almost feel naked without it as I always end my beauty routine with a spray, after getting dressed. Perfume enhances a person’s personality, and for me it’s a way to feel empowered. I’m naturally drawn to strong, memorable (almost masculine) scents. I also find it challenging to find a fragrance that truly complements my skin’s pH, but this one lasts on me all day. Even after a long day at work, I can still smell it, and I love it!

Oribe’s Côte d'Azur

The scent I keep returning to every spring and summer. Light yet distinctive, it perfectly balances sweet and spicy, like a breath of fresh summer air. It pairs smoothly with woody perfumes to add a touch of spice at night.

Dolce & Gabbana’s Devotion

I’m always drawn to sweet scents, just a hint of vanilla and I’m sold. Lately my go-to perfume has been Dolce & Gabbana Devotion, sweet yet intense, with a touch of citrus that stays with me throughout the day. It makes me feel feminine, strong, and sensual, like I’m living in a perfect Italian setting. And the bottle itself, cherry on top!

Le Labo’s Vetiver 46

“Funny that you picked this,” I was told by a member of the Le Labo team as I stood there dressed in a suit. “All my extremely elegant friends love this one.” And I have to say, I’m addicted to this fragrance. It’s deep, dark, and moody—it smells like the warm shade of colour black to me. The hints of pepper, cedar, and guayacan give it that delicately mysterious sensation.

Givenchy’s L’interdit

This scent has been my loyal companion for years, and I can’t imagine wearing anything else. Wherever I go, people are drawn to it, and I love answering their curiosity with a confident “L’interdit,” which makes me feel like a French femme fatale. The name alone recalls a forbidden sensuality, while the earthy vetiver and patchouli contrast beautifully with the sweet, delicate notes of white flowers—just like me.
