The Ivens, truly a memorable experience located incredibly in Lisbon, Portugal. With a perfect blend of city centre chaos and seaside tranquility, this hotel is steeped in rich history and cultural significance, given its location in the city's neighbourhood of Chiado.
As we experienced the hotel, one of the most notable impressions was the interior design that meets the eye as you enter the Lobby. From the impressive selection of books to the classical Portuguese elegance and Art-deco influences, the design is truly unforgettable, yet the interior is more than meets the eye, as its history is equally impressive. The hotel’s name plays tribute to the two notable Portuguese explorers Roberto Ivens and Hermenegildo Capello. Given the adventurous nature of these historical figures, it is no surprise that the design draws inspiration from late 19th century Central Africa.
As if the grand entrance wasn’t impressive enough, the hotel rooms display the same maximalist tropical ambiance. Thoughtfully placed in front of the tropical wallpaper, we found a king-sized bed with crisp linen in an ambient room. Equipped with a 49’’ TV, wireless stereo tables and a mini bar, the room has truly been thought out into the finest details.
After a day of exploring, it was time to be greeted into the Rocco restaurant — an authentic taste of Italian and Mediterranean flavours. The three different areas; including the Gastrobar, Crudo bar and Ristorante, all stand on the ground floor of the hotel, open to the city. The outstanding design elements in the lobby are also consistent throughout the restaurant, an interior partnership between Plateform and renowned designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán. The ambient, Almalfi coast inspired restaurant offered an impressive overall experience.
Concisely put, The Ivens provides an exceptional stay, with endless design elements that immerse you in its rich atmosphere, paired with perfect comfort and top-notch service. And let's not forget the unforgettable flavors at their Rocco restaurant—truly a highlight of the experience.
