CONTRARIUM BY LUMUS INSTRUMENTS MAKES ITS RETURN TO LOFI AMSTERDAM IN JANUARY 2025
Contrarium, an audiovisual show by Lumus Instruments, returns this January with a transformative experience where co-creation unfolds live on stage. Artists on the lineup redefine the boundaries of sound and light through a real-time, interactive system. Sound and visual artists are connected through a data-driven ecosystem, creating an expansive spatial instrument that stretches through the entire space. Electronic sounds and gritty sound-design generate light that envelops the audience and reshapes the space. Hosted in Lofi, a former bus garage transformed into a club, this event blends electronic soundscapes and dynamic light design to create a one-of-a-kind live performance experience.
For this special edition, on the second night, Nxt Museum joins as a special curator, bringing their expertise in new media art and immersive experiences to enhance the program.
The tickets are available at lofi.amsterdam.

Initiated by Lumus Instruments, Contrarium is an ongoing exploration of how sound can sculpt light and space, redefining the performance space as both a visual and auditory landscape. The project reflects Lumus Instruments' mission to pioneer experiential art, merging disciplines through collaboration and improvisation.
Previous Contrarium shows took place at venues like Lofi (2021), Paradigm (2022, 2023), and Monopol Berlin (2024), featuring artists such as JakoJako, Jochem Paap, Nadia Struiwigh, Polygonia, Interstellar Funk, Boris Acket, Max Frimout, Maarten Vos, Albert van Abbe and Enequist.
Lumus Instruments is a multidisciplinary studio that experiments with the physical manifestation of computational technology. The studio is directed by Timo Lejeune and Julius Oosting, who are both driven by the process of making and the search for synergetic design principles.
With the notion of “experience as the ultimate reality”, they artificially craft experiences that give rise to a sense of timelessness and radical realism. This results in installations that create a sense of future through the experience of now.
