IN CONVERSATION WITH MIRTA MILER

interview by JANA LETONJA

Makeup artist and influencer Mirta Miler, also known as “mimiermakeup”, has become a trusted source for makeup hacks, tips, and tutorials that captivate beauty lovers around the globe. As she continues to expand her reach, she is inspiring a global community of makeup lovers, transforming the way beauty is shared and experienced online.

How did you first get into makeup, and what inspired you to turn it into a career?

I first got into makeup in my second year of university while working an office job in marketing. I really wanted a creative outlet, so I started doing makeup as a hobby, and it felt very therapeutic to me. I kept at it for a while, and when my content started performing well, the positive feedback motivated me to keep going. Eventually, it became a natural progression to make it my full-time job.

What is the most rewarding part of being a makeup artist and influencer with such a global audience?

The most rewarding part of being a makeup artist with a global influence is meeting people from different countries who follow my content. It’s truly a privilege and an honor to inspire people worldwide, and whenever I meet someone who supports my work, I get really emotional. It means so much to me.

How do you balance your creativity with the business side of being an influencer, especially with such a large platform?

Balancing the business and creative sides of being an influencer is challenging because they’re on completely opposite ends of the spectrum. No one is perfect at it, and it’s important to give yourself grace and understand that you won’t always get both sides right. But I always strive to improve. The best approach for me is to separate my business focused days from my creative days, allowing me to maximize both aspects.

Who or what inspires your makeup artistry? Are there any specific trends or figures in the beauty world that you look up to?

For my makeup, I try to follow trends and what people are interested in at the moment. I find inspiration in many things, but I especially love creative makeup artists who create artsy, colorful looks. One artist I really enjoy following is Mei Peng. I think she’s truly an artist. Even though my content isn’t similar to hers, she inspires me a lot.

How do you keep your content fresh and engaging with the constantly evolving trends in the beauty industry?

I keep my content fresh and engaging by creating conversations and filming speaking content where I connect with my audience. That’s my favorite type of content to create because I want it to be more than just makeup, I want it to feel like a FaceTime call with a friend because that’s exactly what it is to me.

What is your go-to makeup look for everyday glamour versus high-fashion artistry?

My go-to makeup every day is pretty simple. I use BB cream and mascara. But when I’m doing more complex makeup looks, I like to go all out with eyeshadows, graphic liners, glitter and shimmers. It really depends on the occasion and how I’m feeling, so it changes a lot.

What’s one makeup trend right now that you’re most excited about?

One makeup trend I’m most excited about is the return of shimmers and colorful eyeshadows in everyday makeup. I feel like it’s going to make a big comeback in the beauty space, and I can’t wait to see it and start exploring creative makeup on a daily basis much more than we have in the past few years.

In your opinion, what role do influencers and creators like yourself play in changing how beauty is perceived and experienced globally?

In my opinion, influencers and creators play a huge role in shaping beauty trends and how beauty is perceived. As an influencer, you can set trends and influence people's opinions on emerging styles. I think it’s important to inspire others to be themselves and express themselves through makeup because it’s a truly beautiful experience, especially when life feels monotonous. That’s exactly what happened to me when I was working my office job, my colorful eyeshadow looks made me feel much more free and inspired.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years? Would you ever consider branching into other aspects of the beauty industry, like product lines or collaborations with other brands?

I’d love to expand my work into long-form content, such as YouTube, because I believe it allows for a deeper connection with the audience. I never saw myself as a beauty brand owner, but over time, I do see myself exploring entrepreneurial and business ventures. However, I don’t think they will be directly related to makeup. While I may stay in the beauty space, I’d really like to expand into wellness, mindfulness and self-love, as those are areas I’m deeply passionate about.

With your growing popularity, do you have any upcoming projects or collaborations that you’re particularly excited about?

I feel like 2025 is a really unpredictable time, so for now, I’m putting all my big plans on hold until I see the direction this year takes. But you can definitely expect exciting things ahead.

When you’re not busy creating beauty content, what do you like to do in your personal time?

When I’m not filming or working on business-related things, I love to work out, meditate and do Pilates, mostly wellness activities. I recently learned how important it is to take care of yourself and glow from the inside, as it impacts your happiness, relationships and work. Lately, I’ve been very active, and it has truly changed my life. I absolutely love it.
