BYE BYE #BRATSUMMER, HELLO #WITCHYFALL: YOUR ULTIMATE FASHION GUIDE HAS ARRIVED

Seasons come and go, along with our favourite trends, vanishing as quickly as a pack of cigarettes on a Friday night. Yet, one trend has stuck with us longer than we expected, and you probably already know what I am talking about. Ever since the beginning of September, there has been only one question on everyone’s mind: what comes after brat summer? Fashion seems to be navigating the same uncertainty I faced during my teenage years. In a world that always wants more, one thing is clear: we need authentic trends that allow us to embrace even the quirkiest parts of ourselves.

Queen Charli XCX has given us the courage to step out of our internalised awkwardness and into our most confident selves, all thanks to her neon green album. But let’s be real — we can’t have a brat autumn; it just doesn't feel right.

So, our lovely readers, ditch those Pinterest-inspired autumn boards filled with the most basic girls in pleated skirts, thigh-highs, and round hats. Turn off Gilmore Girls (we all know how we feel about Rory), and let go of Carrie’s endless yapping about Mr. Big. We’re not either “very demure, very mindful,” nor do we embrace the clean girl aesthetic. The full moon has spoken, and its guidance is crystal clear. The official season of Witch Fall is upon us.

TikTok has been hinting at it but hasn’t fully acknowledged it, and so we must take the reins. Numéro Netherlands is pleased to cast a spell on you with a carefully curated, witchy Fall fashion guide—crafted exclusively for you, by yours truly.

With ‘WITCHES’ by Alice Phoebe Lou playing in the background and setting the right mood, we could not be more ready to explore the Fall 2024 fashion trends.

If we had to describe this season with a colour, it would definitely be burgundy. It’s no secret that burgundy has taken over the fashion scene, and recently, it’s been appearing on nearly every runway. Sabato De Sarno saw this coming when he launched GUCCI ROSSO ANCORA, and brands like BOTTEGA VENETA, Miu Miu and Saint Laurent (still thinking about that burgundy power suit) are smartly following the suit.

If burgundy is the colour of the season, suede rules the fabrics. We have seen it in every shape and, even if we are not fans of the country trail, we can all agree that it made its impression. Just think of that Gucci Resort 2025 jacket or Valentino’s suede bag embellished with studs, as seen on its SS25 runway. And – speaking of Valentino – we simply can’t not mention all sorts of gothic ribbons, bows and laces that are stealing our FY pages and making all Lana del Rey’s fans cry out loud, while listening to ‘Season Of The Witch’. Or – is it just us?

Tartan has also made a bold return, channelling the perfect witchy energy. Vivienne Westwood knows this well, as do Dior and Chopova Lowena. One thing is clear: tartan is here to stay.

While some witches may wear their tartan skirts for rituals, others are stepping out in dark, transparent looks from Ann Demeulemeester or Rick Owens – ideal for those Hinge dates, that you weren’t sure to go to in the first place. It's no coincidence that their cast looks like it’s straight out of American Horror Story.

And then, there’s liquid leather, which feels like a magic trick all on its own. Mugler, Tod’s, and Ferragamo have all conjured up this texture, and we can’t get enough of it.

The devil is in the details—that’s why we can’t stop here. We all know that great styling can turn a ‘meh’ outfit into something truly spectacular. Let’s start at the top: this fall, sweaters are transforming into scarves, creating volumes and serving up some serious glam.

Forget those chunky Y2K belts and say hello to the new must-have: rope belts. Perfect for cinching oversized coats and adding a touch of whimsy to your look.

Replace your broomstick with the bag of the moment: sleek and narrow, or as some like to call it, the ‘baguette bag.’ It’s the perfect size for all your essentials—especially that jewellery you always forget to put on before leaving the house, only to frantically toss into your purse at the last minute.

When it comes to jewellery, a pendulum is all you need to elevate a simple plain look. Whether it’s a long chain or a suspended stone, this time of the year, less truly IS more. Because, let’s face it—more is overrated.

And finally, arriving at the bottom - all sorts of lace lingerie are well-approved. Yes to tights, socks, gloves, bras, and even underwear. Leather gloves are also becoming a must, the longer, the better. But let’s return to our lace-moment. Imagine completing your outfit with some white lace tights, mary-jane’s or trusty loafers and on top some grey warmers - pure perfection!

A midi skirt and a pair of wool jorts are crying in some vintage store, waiting to be styled with a pair of high boots. Yes, you heard well, only high! Don’t even think about reviving those cowboy boots.

Someone on TikTok commented: "Brat Summer is over, it’s time for witch b**** fall." And we couldn’t agree more. If we had to crown a queen of the season, it would be the iconic Michèle Lamy, followed by Andrea Ricci, Lara Violetta, Brenda Hashtag, and Miriam—forever our sources of inspiration.

But as much as we’d love to keep chatting about all things witchy, other duty calls (Buffy The Vampire Slayer is waiting). To wrap up, we have curated a playlist to keep the vibes going.

To all the fellow witches out there—beware, we will be back soon with a poisoned fashion guide.
