CASUAL GRANDEUR AND BAMBOO AT THE GUCCI SS25 RUNWAY
For its Spring/Summer’25 womenswear collection, Gucci returns to the Triennele di Milano. Previously, the fashion house presented their menswear collection at the museum for design and arts in June, and for this show, the catwalk slowly transitions from room to room, turning white elegance into deep red hues.
Under Sabato de Sarno’s creative direction, this casual grandeur is inspired by his obsessions — refined tailoring, lingerie, leather, and 60s silhouettes, all combined with the tireless exploration of the heritage of this brand - and always with an irreverent attitude.
The show opened slowly, with a muted grey colour palette containings hints of white, tones of green, and the iconic Gucci Rosso Ancora. The silhouettes here paid homage to the 60’s, with structured jackets, shorts, and A-line skirts. As the show progressed however, and the models walked through the summery lit rooms, more colours started to appear. Still very much maintaining Gucci chic, grand coats with couture attitude brought fourth a new vigor to the GG Monogram. Lingerie too started to pop up here and there, spying through lace dresses and slightly open coats.
An accessory that also makes its grand return to the runway is the Gucci Bamboo 1947, the bag in its original design with new contemporary details with leather, lacquer, and Plexiglas. Bamboo inspired jewellery appear as well, imitating the materials shape and intertwining with the body. The same jewels tie the flowing jersey dresses inspired by the 90’s, as well as the square-toe platforms. New handbags with bamboo details alternate on the runway with mini silhouettes and the Gucci 73 bucket bag with the Horsebit on the side.
The Horsebit remains a central element for shoes, evolving from its 1953 loafers version into platforms, creepers, ballerinas and ankle boots. Finally, the Gucci Flora foulard, returns as a vibrant headscarf in its original glory as designed by illustrator Vittorio Accornero de Testa.
Ultimate, the Spring/Summer’25 runway is a grand display of everything Gucci: chic, classy, and playful colours and materials thrown within the mix.
