DIOR UNLEASHES A VOLLEY OF ARROWS AT THEIR SS25 RUNWAY
Striking and classy, Dior returns to the runway under Maria Grazia Chiuri’s creative direction with a modern interpretation of the fierce Amazon dress. With a goal to re-emphasise the bodily relation with garments, the looks are made with intention and functionality in mind. Set against the backdrop of the Olympic and Paralympic games, models walked the runway in between bullseye shots by artist and archer SAGG Napoli in the centre of the catwalk.
Body, sport, and fashion were central at this year’s Olympic and Paralympic Paris games. As such, attention was given to gender equality, inclusivity, and respect and acceptance of one’s own limits. Chiuri thus invited SAGG Napoli who performed archery inside the catwalk space, drawing attention to both precision craft and body. Napoli opened the show herself, walking the runway not with a handbag or slingbacks, but with bow and arrow. Again, spotlighting body over attire or outfit.
The looks themselves were quite minimal in turn. Predominantly black and white, the house reimagined archival pieces in a contemporary twist. White pieces, such as shirts, were paired with black skirts, trousers, and dresses, and nearly all the outfits were carried with a sense of sport. Tracksuits and relaxed tailoring shone through and in between the garments, the logo of the house was varyingly displayed across the looks.
“My obsession is making pieces which are easy to wear, using technology but also couture know-how," Chiuri told backstage. The inspiration of Amazon women is beginning to makes sense here, as they were one of the first groups of women to wear moveable attire and trousers. Modern femininity and fashion in relation to garments should focus on wearability, according to Chiuri. And so the archival Amazon dress, first dreamed up by Christian Dior for fall winter 1951-1952, is reinterpreted to fit this contemporary setting.
Overall, the Spring/Summer’25 collection contains minimalist attire and instead concentrates on body, functionality, and wearability — perfectly fitting for the season.
