FABIEN ZOU PRESENTS NEW “MOFWAZÉ” COLLECTION AT PARIS FASHION WEEK
During Paris Fashion Week, Fabien Zou presented his latest collection, "Mofwazé," which means "Metamorphosis" in Guadeloupean Creole. The collection is heavily influenced by his Guadeloupean roots and Antillean heritage, and marks a new chapter for both himself and his brand.
In this introspective work, Zou bares his soul; magnifying what he perceives as beautiful, exaggerating it, and revealing it to the world. Each piece draws from an aspect of his life — his fears, desires, heartbreaks, and above all else, the admiration he holds for his mother.
The collection itself is elegantly composed of fifteen minimalist silhouettes with deconstructed architecture. He modernises the traditional suit by blending these silhouettes with headpieces and jewelry. For the creation of his new pieces, Zou mixes noble materials with more accessible ones: wool, leather, synthetic hair, and chrome-plated brass. The combination allows for both luxury and accessibility.
He further reinterprets his Antillean cultural heritage by introducing us to the “Fabien Zou woman,” a modern Matador adorned with an abundance of jewellery. The collection features exaggerated and layered necklaces, earrings inspired by traditional Antillean nipple jewellery, known as "Tétés négresse”, and reimagined creole hoops.
Additionally, petticoats are transposed onto flared pants, waists are accentuated with corsets, and synthetic hair is used as a tribute to afro hair and its significance in the Antillean community, particularly among women.
With each look, Zou celebrates his cultural heritage and pays homage to the woman who inspired it. The collection strengthens historical references and aims to empower those who proudly wear it today.
