LOUIS VUITTON CELEBRATES ITS COLLABORATION WITH FRANK GEHRY AT ART BASEL PARIS
As an associate partner of Art Basel Paris for a third consecutive year, Louis Vuitton celebrates its long-standing collaboration with Frank Gehry in an exhibition revealed on the Balcon d’Honneur of the Grand Palais. Beyond being an architect and artist, Gehry is known for his constant experimentation with shapes and materials. At the Maison, the designer helped to create various objects, drawings, and models over a span of 20 years.
Floating at the top of the grand staircase of the Palais is a monumental white fish. The sculpture highlights a delicate figure which symbolises the dynamics that characterise Gehry’s structures. It additionally adds to the effect of its scales, which have inspired the great diversity in his work on shapes. The mobile animal is encircled by a large arch of wooden slats arranged into geometric patterns. This spectacular piece – like some of the pieces in the washi paper displayed here – is a reminder of Frank Gehry’s affection for the Japanese visual arts.
By highlighting the body of work, which is now an integral part of its identity at Art Basel Paris, Louis Vuitton celebrates its renewed commitment to Art. This close relationship was established nearly a century ago, when Gaston-Louis Vuitton – the founder’s grandson – began to call on artists to design display windows, advertisements, and objects for the Maison
The exhibition will take place as part of the 2024 edition of Art Basel Paris, to be held at the Grand Palais from 18 to 20 October.
