SEWMOD AW 2025 “BACK TO INNOCENCE”
Made completely by hand from start to finish using all natural fibers, hand spinning, weaving and sewing, founder and designer Wu QiuXiong’s brand for men and women combines a level of creativity, artisanal knowhow and one-of-a-kind execution that could only come from China. In its debut season for Fall/Winter ‘25/26, Sewmod is the fruit of eight years preparation by QiuXiong to develop the brand’s unique construction based on ancestral techniques, a dedicated team of specialized artisans to produce each piece by hand and a minimalist aesthetic for pieces that flow fluently between western tailoring and Chinese dress.
QiuXiong began collecting Chinese vintage handwoven fabrics, the cloth woven inch by inch by artisans. He was attracted by “their warmth, that’s so different from modern, mechanically woven fabrics made from yarns bonded together with chemicals to prevent breakage.” In contrast to modern materials, Chinese handwovens are bonded with rice paste “that gives them a “certain energy and spirit,” he adds. Inspiration for Sewmod also comes from painting. “Chinese ink paintings, which feature vast areas of blank space carry profound depth and meaning,” he explains. “The blankness allows viewers to focus on the richness of details within the brushstrokes. Today, the brand develops itself its raw material and thread.”
