VIVIENNE TAM REVEALS THE ALLURE OF HAINAN IN SS25 COLLECTION

Vivienne Tam’s SS25 collection, entitled "La Li — Hainan Breeze," draws inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of the island of Hainan, also known as China's Hawaii. Tam presents an exploration of the ancient brocade weaving of the Li Jǐn ethnic minority. The Li Jǐn ethnic group has maintained this weaving tradition for 3,000-year-old tradition and is recognized by the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Within this collection, there is a reinterpretation of these techniques into a modern, resort-ready fashion story.

The designs feature intricate patterns inspired by the Li tribe’s symbols of strength, nature, and community—such as strongmen, deer, frogs, and flowers—modernized with geometric patterns and playful proportions. Fabrics crafted using the indigenous methods by Hainan’s Li artisans lend authenticity, emphasizing Tam’s dedication to sustainability and supporting local craftsmanship.

The collection’s tropical color palette includes crisp whites, vibrant gingers, rich indigos, and purples, paired with lace, denim, cotton, and silk. The pieces combine tradition and modernity, with cool blazers, sporty jackets, feminine bubble skirts, and fluid dresses.

Tam's collection merges Hainan's tropical beauty with global fashion, resonating on the streets of Paris, Hong Kong, and New York. Known for blending East and West, Tam continues to captivate the Paris Fashion Week audience, celebrating cultural fusion, sustainability, and innovation.
