YOGI AMSTERDAM: A NEW SANCTUARY FOR YOGA LOVERS IN THE JORDAAN
words by MARIE-PAULINE CESARI
It’s impressive how quickly YOGI, the newest hot yoga studio in Amsterdam’s Jordaan, already feels like a natural part of the neighborhood. Its warm and welcoming studios immediately put you at ease. This sense of comfort and belonging comes from Sophie Diemer, YOGI’s 23-year-old founder, who has crafted a space that’s both modern and serene—a true retreat in the middle of the city.
YOGI's design has a spa-like calm, with earthy tones, soft curves, and natural textures that instantly relax you. Thoughtfully placed decor and gentle lighting add to the peaceful feel, while the small boutique area, stocked with stylish activewear from brands like Manduka and House of Gravity, ties in perfectly with the studio’s aesthetic.
But the real heart of YOGI is its instructors. Angèle Dubois is a standout for me; her yin yoga and vinyasa classes have a gentle, personal touch that’s hard to find elsewhere. She often gives head massages at the end of class, and her soft voice and attentive guidance make every session feel personal and nurturing. Her classes have become a highlight of my week.
The studio offers a variety of classes tailored to different styles and skill levels. One other standout for me is the Sculpt Yoga class led by Sophie. It’s the perfect blend of a workout and yoga, combining weights with traditional poses to both strengthen and relax your muscles. It’s definitely a challenging class, but I loved it and highly recommend giving it a try! YOGI also hosts unique events like Techno Yoga, Cacao Ceremonies, and Gratitude Circles, which bring a sense of community and make the studio much more than just a place to practice yoga.
You can find YOGI on ClassPass (I personally use all my credits there!). For more information on schedules, memberships, and special events, visit their website or follow @YOGIstudioamsterdam on social media.
