BVDS PRESENT SONGOFSONGS: A PERFORMANCE OF OUR ECOSYTEM
With SONGOFSONGS, the latest audiovisual installation by Suzan Boogaert and Bianca van der Schoot, BVDS collaborate with Theater Rotterdam to bring an ecological orgy to performance. Pixels, paint, and moving bodies, the theatrical spectacle is a constantly changing triptych worth the visit.
The performance centers a woman in the middle of her life called Mommy. She is in a period of transition, some may even call menopause, and practices love making with her community of lovers in her intimate room. The narrative is written in a way that makes it circular, as opposed to linear. The choices in the storytelling are not quite rational, but appear to be more intuitive — making it more surprising with every twist and turn. Unlike traditional theatre, monologues take a backseat, and relationships and conversations step into the forefront. It is a form of storytelling that aligns with the themes of the performance: fungi, vegetables, animals, and a return to the roots of our ecosystem.
”With SONGOFSONGS, we explore the idea that activism can start with paying attention to what you love. For example, by focusing on your local ecosystem. A lot of (eco)activism makes us feel paralyzed because it’s too big, it’s a hyper-object,” says van der Schoot. “Open your senses, be aware of what you find attractive, what appeals to you, be sensually alive. In this way, eroticism can be a radical act, an act of activism.”
BVDS additionally partnered up with composer, spoken-word artist, and choreographer OTION, who was recently nominated for the Theo D’Or202 for his performance in Romana Vrede De Tijd zal ons leren. The SONGOFSONGS installation is currently on tour, and you can look here for a full overview of dates and tickets.
