CINEMATIC DRAMA WITH JIL SANDER AT THE SS25 RUNWAY SHOW
With a floral floor and dark velvet curtains, the Spring/Summer’25 Jil Sander runway show transports audiences into cinematic landscapes. Celebrating urban life, the collection captures the beauty of hidden street corners. From neon-lit Vancouver to pre-technological Hong Kong nightlife, creative directors Luke and Lucie Meier turn the ordinary into romanticised drama with fabric, shape, and accessory.
In this decidedly urban collection, the creative duo sketches out an attitude and style that fits perfectly with the atmosphere. Iridescent fabrics and cityscapes worked into garments traverse the collection with a certain poise, and the different dualities incorporated in the collection add another perspective. Silhouettes and shapes are more real and grounded, with shoulders of jackets and coats wider, and trousers long, slender, soft and voluminous.
The accessories also play a vital role in the collection’s overall narrative, with minimal yet impactful jewellery adding subtility, while clean-cut bags contribute to style and functionality. Additionally, the footwear, from low boots to sandals, help to bring out a practical dimension to the collection, with all the elements encapsulating the show’s urban setting.
The looks are of great variety as well, running from oversized blazers and leather coats to colourfull shorts. The hues in the collection also range widely, going from muted greys and greens in the beginning to a more vivid palette in the middle of the runway. Right before transitioning into nearly all black looks at the end of the show, splashes of red and orange appear on the garments, giving a much unexpected boost of energy to the runway. The black embossed, floral shiny raincoat, turn a certain romantic seediness into the urban sophistication, and the bright red coat blushes up the catwalk.
With this Spring/Summer show, Jil Sander has managed to curate a dramatic collection with cinematic qualities of the likes of Wong Kar-Wai directed movies. Soundtracked by synthesisers, drum machines, and shrill, soft lyrics, the runway radiates a vividly pictorial atmosphere.
